2017.03.23 - Octagonal Bowsprit

The two main tasks of the day were the application of the fifth coat of varnish to the boat and making the bowsprit octagonal. The bowsprit thick end was cut on the table saw in the same way as the boom since it is the same width. The tapered section was marked using the spar gauge and then the corners removed with the power plane.

The bowsprit with eight sides.

The thin end of the bowsprit. Not a bad job despite my cack handedness with a power plane.

I prepared the gaff for the cutting, all four sides were sanded so that there were not bits sticking out that would hold up on the saw table.

The fifth coat of varnish, all nice a shiny.

Not bad. She should look really good with he port lights in place and the rest of the hardware.
