2017.01.22 - Top o'the Flat Top Box

Not at all surprisingly, today's main task was the making of the top of the flat top box and because I could make it outside of the cabin, only going in to the cramped cabin space for fitting, it didn't take too long.

Made of Oak with rounded top edges...

...and carefully placed Oak battens glued and screwed to the underside...

...it is a (very) tight fit. In fact it is slightly too tight a fit and once it is all dried I will thin the longitudinal battens very slightly at the lower end so that the batten is a very slight wedge rather than a rectangle in cross-section. It will be easier to initially locate the top but will still require a thump or two in order to seat it properly and to stop it falling out.

Time for lunch.
